First Week of 2013

Back to school this week! It was great to see everyone after the break, and so nice to hear about everyone’s holiday! Unfortunately, the flu has hit our room hard. We have had a number of students away sick, and on Friday, we had only 14 students at school! I hope that next week is a healthier one for our class!

In Health, we are learning about self-control and healthy ways to manage stress and anger. The students have been using a lot of the counting and breathing strategies that they learned in class, and I am happy to hear about the positive results!

A few reminders for next week…

* Spelling corrections are due
* Math corrections are due

* #11 and #12 of your Friendship Booklet are due

A question for you, students…
We had so much fun with Team Building on Friday! Our Team Building theme this round was video games. What is your favourite video game? I think that mine will always be Super Mario World or Mario Kart!

Have a great weekend, and stay warm!

One Week Left!

There are only five days left this week until Christmas Break, and I cannot BELIEVE how quickly the past four months have flown by!  I am so impressed by the progress the class has made.  I absolutely love teaching this group of students, and I am so thankful for their excellent behaviour, their enthusiasm, and their kindness.  Because of this behaviour, we have been able to do many fun activities because they are able to handle the activities with maturity.  The students showed this maturity while at the Science Centre this week.  We had a fantastic day and learned so much while exploring the exhibits and watching the Imax movie Tornado Ally.  I am thankful to the students for such a wonderful day!

This week leading up to Christmas is my absolute favourite time of the year to be a teacher, as I love how joyful everyone is!  We still have quite a number of fun activities in the works this week, so please see the list below so that you are aware of what your child needs to bring to school each day. As always, thank you so much for your cooperation!

The Winter Concert is on Tuesday, and the dress rehearsal is Monday.  Students - please do not forget to bring your costume items for the dress rehearsal on Monday, and for the concert performances Tuesday afternoon and evening.  The concert on Tuesday evening will begin at 6:30pm. All classroom doors will be locked prior to 6pm, so students should not be in the hallways before then.  I can't wait to see our students on stage, as they have been practising a lot!  As well, our students participating in "Gobeil Idol" have also been sounding fantastic when singing solo for our class!  We currently have six competitors left!  The final four will face off on Friday, and one will be crowned our classroom winner!  Thanks to everyone who has performed up to this point!

We are looking for a home for our beloved Coconut over the Christmas break! If you are able to let him stay at your house for the holidays, I would GREATLY appreciate it! If this is possible, please let me know by writing a note in your child’s agenda and you can arrange a time to pick him up next week. Thank you in advance!

Some students have been asking about Reading Logs this month.  We will have the Reading Logs be due on Friday, January 11 so that gives you some time to read over the Christmas holidays, as I know that it is a busy time of year right now.

It is going to be a very busy week, so if you aren't already doing so, I would suggest printing off the following list for reference throughout this week.

* Please do not forget to bring your items for your costume for the winter concert dress rehearsal today. You need to have a scarf, toque, and mitts at school.

* Spelling corrections are due

* Stained Glass picture is due

* Gobeil Idol today!

* Winter Concert! Please have your costume here! The afternoon show will be at 1:30 and the evening show is at 6:30. Please be back at school to perform tonight. You do not need to be at the classroom until 6:10. You may bring a game to play while you wait for our class to perform!
* Math Test today! Please be sure to study your pre-test information.

* Gingerbread houses today! Please bring your graham crackers, icing, milk carton, and candy!
* Gobeil Idol today!
* Last day for this round of Teams!

* Christmas Trivia is due!
* Team Lunch for the winning teams!
* Bring a drink and snack if you would like while we watch Elf this afternoon!

* Red, Green, and White Day!
* Gobeil Idol Final!
* Bring a drink and snack in the afternoon, and any games or CDs that you would like to play.

Students, a question for you…
What is one of your favourite holiday traditions?

I hope that you all have an absolutely fantastic week!
~ Mrs. Gobeil
