Book Fair Update -- Thank You Henry Braun Community!

Thank you to the Henry Braun community for your support of both of the recent book fairs that we held! It has allowed us to place just over $3000.00 books into our library collection. More importantly, it has generated the wonderful buzz around reading that children get when they have a book of their very own.

Just in case you are wondering if those dollars your family spends on books are important, please take a look at this report from Science Daily. Having books in your home, whether purchased or borrowed from the public library, will increase the level of education your child attains.

Band Notes

More than ever our society needs creative problem-solvers. Music training stretches these creative, right-brained 'muscles'. It is no wonder that current research continues to demonstrate that success in music translates to success in life.

"On the 1999 SAT [college admissions test], music students continued to outperform their non-arts peers, scoring 61 points higher on the verbal [literacy] portion and 42 points higher on the math [numeracy] portion of the exam."

Steven M. Demorest & Steven J. Morrison, "Does Music Make you Smarter?" Music Educators Journal, Sept., 2000.

Please welcome Ms. McArthur to our Johnson Area Band team! She will be taking over for Mr. Lewicki as he completes his term contract and officially retires (again!) Thank you Mr. Lewicki and best wishes on your retirement.J

The Gr. 7/8 Band is heading to the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Festival May 15-16. Trip forms and fees are due April 25th. Check the website for more details!

Save the Date! Our final spring concert is Tues. May 29th at 7:30pm. We look forward to seeing you there! The following Thurs. May 31st our Gr. 6 Band will have their year-end wind-up. Stay tuned for details.

If you'd like to get more involved in our band parent association please join us at our next JAM meeting on Tues., Apr. 24th at 7:15pm in the Johnson staff room.
